the LBS

It’s the turn of the luggage to have its place in the sun, so to speak. So following close on the heel sof the DBS, here's the LBS- Luggage Bag Strategy debate.
We huffed and puffed to ensure that a bag (full of our winter clothes) is sent from India in time for the trip. It should be here sometime this week, but now that its coming, we aren’t sure whether it’s the best bet for the trip. It a big duffel-sort bag. And I mean Big. All our stuff will easily fit into it. But is that good thing or a bad thing.
The good part is that no way do we want to take a suitcase- lugging it around will be a royal pain. The bad part is that just the one bag will be big and heavy-ish and cumbersome as hell. The good part is that we have this bag (or will soon). The bad part is that the option is only to buy another, smaller bag and combine it with a small bag at home. That mean another thing to spend on. Damn.

You see? A holiday ain’t no easy thing people!

I would strongly recommend you take a large, lockable rucksack instead of a duffel bag. Don't take any bags you can't wheel or carry on your shoulders. How long are you going for? Istanbul is lovely, btw.. Will you really need a lot of winter clothes there in November?

hos geldeniz mala! (welcome)

Well we're only pseudo backpackers, you know- we wont really have a backpack. We dont expect to be walking around with our bag a lot, though (as you'd picture a true backpacking trip to be), plus we'de need to get two rucksacks, and right now the budget is dedicated to getting there, eating a little, buses and entries. alas...

nah we're getting the winter clothes cause we got none at all when we moved here. dont expect to use more than ajacket or a light sweater in October...

Cool :-) It all depends really on how much travelling you're doing between cities and how (air/train/bus). When S and I went to Europe last summer, we did 3-4 cities over 2 weeks and travel was by flight/bus/boat. So our strategy was 1 large rucksack (which he carried :-)) plus a smaller one (the kind we used in college) which I carried, and which we used as a daypack.

So make sure you have apple tea in Istanbul (even though they say only the tourists order it these days)

PS : I know this is horribly late, but shaadi mubarak ho. Had heard vaguely from Popat, but didnt realise you'd already taken the plunge :-)
